Humboldt Botanical Garden’s Plant Sale 2017 will be bigger and better than ever. It is scheduled for Friday May 5th, members only and Saturday and Sunday, May 6th and 7th for the public. In addition to the ever charming Himalayan blue poppy, Meconopsis ‘Lingholm,’ the Garden will also offer hundreds of 1-gallon perennials, most suited for butterflies, pollinators and birds. A native plant section will feature a wide array of mimulus in assorted colors. Be sure to check out the delightful succulent mini gardens ideal for Mothers Day gifts.
HBG’s 4-inch succulent collection continues to grow. This year 12 new sempervivums, all named varieties, will be offered. Marketed as ‘Chick Charms’ by succulent breeder Chris Hansen, these collectible hens and chicks are called ‘Bing Cherry,’ ‘Cinnamon Starburst,’ ‘Chocolate Kiss’ and ‘Fringed Frosting,’ to name a few. Hardy sempervivums are easy to grow and drought tolerant as well.
Also new to this year’s plant sale is a carnivorous plant collection, offering for the first time a limited selection of the rare Pinguicula morensis, Mexican butterwort. Delightful portable kitchen herb gardens in 12- inch pots are sure to please the chef in your family. As always, the HBG plant sale will feature its fantastic bargain plant section. Bring a big box and shop ’til you drop.
