It has been very encouraging to see the increased amount of involvement from many additional members in recent months. As many of you have become more involved in HBGF, you have asked, “How else can I help?” Below are some ways you can contribute to HBGF:
Volunteer with HBGF. Ours is a large organization with many details that need to be managed in order to fulfill our ambitious mission. Please consider volunteering in the Garden to install plants, pull weeds, perform maintenance, or other Garden tasks. Perhaps you are willing to do office work, like data entry, stuffing envelopes, or telephone tree work from home. We have over twenty categories of volunteer work that we need help with. We have designed a questionnaire to elicit special skills and areas of volunteer interest from our members and the community. Please call 707-442-5139 or e-mail hbgf@hbgf.org, and we will send you a questionnaire so we can have your volunteer interest documented and utilize more of your skills.
Make a financial contribution. In addition to the many generous financial donations already received over the years, we need additional funds to help pay for ongoing construction, planting and maintenance. HBGF runs a lean organization with only one paid office staff and one paid gardener; as such, the bulk of funds received go directly into the construction of the Garden. Check with your tax advisor to see if your donation is tax deductible. We have also recently added the capability to accept recurring monthly contributions. Please phone 442-5139 and we will process your credit card information.
Dedicate a bench, a memorial tree or paver in the Botanical Garden. These beautiful items are a wonderful way to honor a family member or remember a loved one. Your dedication will live on as the garden grows and matures. Opportunities also exist for naming of gardens and collections with the Humboldt Botanical Garden; any Board member would be happy to discuss the possibilities for naming opportunities or memorial items with you.
Recruit new members. In the next few weeks we will be actively soliciting new members for the Humboldt Botanical Gardens Foundation via U.S. Mail and follow-up telephone calls. Who do you know that might be interested in becoming a member of the Humboldt Botanical Gardens Foundation? Please let us know, and we will mail them an invitation to join. Ideal candidates are people who garden or enjoy watching living things grow, those who can appreciate what the Garden will add to our local area, and past members who became inactive, and those who appreciate learning about plants.
For more information about how you can help, please call 707-442-5139, e-mail hbgf@hbgf.org. Thank you for your ongoing support of the Humboldt Botanical Gardens Foundation.
